Our Story
Higher than Reality, Stands Possibility

The challenges facing our disadvantaged communities requires A Community. Westwood Community Development Corporation objective is to create A Beloved Community. The Beloved Community is a "Safe Haven" for Our Children, Our Seniors and Our Schools. It involves bringing Meaning to the Lost, Food for the Hungry, Hope for the Hopeless and Care for those in Need. It is our mission to create a model family life complete with meaning, substance and reinforcement from caring institutions withing the neighborhood to create communities that are better places to live.
We provide services and resources to low-income, homeless, unemployed and disadvantaged individuals. We aim to strengthen communities through economic and community outreach services.
Westwood Community Development Corporation (WCDC) emerged out of a pursuit to inspire and to support the community. Established in 1989, we’re an organization who sold over 100 new and rehabbed homes to first time home buyers in conjunction with the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development. WCDC decided to continue its vision of the Beloved Community by employing and training opportunity youths during these past 20 plus years to address the economic crisis that plague our city. We are addressing the technological learning gap that are distressing our communities . We provide hunger relief to over 1,500 families annually through our Food Pantry. We have served over 25,000 free meals to children with Summer Meals while having a safe place for them to experience the many sights and landmarks that Chicago offers through our Summer Camp Program. We celebrate those who have overcome adversities and we help children make significant educational gains.
Our goal is to "Make of this Old World, A New One."
